Corps grads can become cops

Undergraduate Police Volunteer Reserve Corps (Kor Suksis) officer-training programme would be accepted as police officers if they decide to join the police force.

This is because the training and exposure given are similar to the ones provided to police officers, said Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Musa Hassan.

These undergraduates are exposed to the trainings of police and they know the role and function of the police force.

And since the programme is committed to moulding youths who are disciplined, ethical and possess good values, I believe they have what it takes to become good policemen,� he told reporters at a ceremony at Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) to honour the Kor Suksis officer training programme.

Musa added that joining the cadet corp was a good way to gain a better understanding of the duties of the police and realise how the public could work together with them to prevent crime.

They are police volunteers. If we feel we need them for our daily work, we can always call them to active duty and they will be paid allowances, he added.

The ceremony saw some 658 undergraduates from 12 Public Institutions of Higher Learning completing the three-year programme.

Musa presented them the certificates.

Also present were USM chancellor Raja of Perlis Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Putra Jamalullail, Raja Perempuan of Perlis Tuanku Fauziah Tengku Abdul Rashid and USM vice-chancellor Prof Tan Sri Dzulkifli Abdul Razak.

At the event, USM and the police force renewed the memorandum of understanding (MOU) in the Forensic Science studies.
